What is Skin Cancer?

Skin cancer is the most common cancer, affecting more than one million Americans every year. One in five Americans will develop skin cancer at some point in their lives. Skin cancers are generally curable if caught early. However, people who have had skin cancer are at a higher risk of developing a new skin cancer, which is why regular self-examination and visits to the dermatologist are imperative.

Our board certified dermatologists and provider here at Integrated Dermatology are experts in the field of dermatology.  They are specialists that are trained to help detect, diagnose, and prevent skin cancer.  Our providers conduct complete skin exams to detect and treat all types of suspicious spots. The complete body exam is an extensive but efficient scan of your skin from your scalp down to your toes. We recommend an annual skin cancer screening, along with more frequent screenings for those that have been diagnosed with skin cancer in the past. During your appointment, our expert providers will educate you on the types of moles to monitor.

The vast majority of skin cancers are composed of three different types:

Basal Cell Carcinoma

Squamous Cell Carcinoma

Melanoma
