Here at Integrated Dermatology, we provide an award-winning, multi-wavelength laser, GentleMax Pro®, for Laser Hair Removal. Unlike other lasers, the GentleMax Pro® treats ALL skin types, offers more versatility because of a multi-wavelength approach to hair removal and it is also designed with the patient’s comfort in mind.
What Is Laser Hair Removal?
Laser hair removal (LHR) via the GentleMax Pro® is the newest most effective way to remove unwanted hair. The GentleMax Pro® combines two fast and powerful lasers. The lasers work by destroying hair follicles through a series of treatments without harming the surrounding skin. The GentleMax Pro® can easily remove hundreds of hair follicles in a single sweep.
Gentle isn’t just in the name, this laser uses a Dynamic Cooling Device™, where cryogen is sprayed onto the skin a fraction of a second before each laser pulse, which provides increased comfort during treatment. This immediate cooling feature helps keep our patients comfortable during the entire procedure.
Experience 80% permanent hair reduction after six treatments and imagine silky-smooth skin for life without the hassle of shaving every day. This can become a reality with laser hair removal.
How does laser hair removal work?
Laser energy is delivered through a small handpiece operated by your physician or physician assistant.
The laser delivers an intense beam of light, which is absorbed by the skin and converted to heat. The heat is then absorbed by the cells being targeted, while the surrounding tissue remains unaffected. Destroyed hairs are then either dissolved within the skin or rejected by the body within two to three weeks.
Laser hair removal is a quick, easy and relatively painless way to reduce hair in unwanted areas. In fact, many patients have their treatments done during lunch without any downtime.
Patients have found their skin may be slightly red immediately following the procedure. This typically lasts from a few minutes to several hours after the procedure.
Why should I choose Integrated Dermatology for my Laser Hair Removal?
At Integrated Dermatology, our physicians and physician assistants provide laser hair removal treatments to our patients.
It is important to find an experienced provider who will take the time to understand your treatment goals and what is takes to develop healthy skin. We value your trust in us and will work together with you to meet your aesthetic goal.
How do I prepare for treatment?
Avoid plucking, electrolysis or waxing for six weeks prior to treatment. If you have a history of herpes simplex virus (cold sores), prophylactic antiviral therapy may be prescribed.
Skin should be clean-shaven and thoroughly cleansed, removing makeup, creams, oils or self-tanning products before laser treatment.
Avoid skin care products with irritants such as Glycolic Acid or Retin-A in the procedure area for about a week before treatment.
Avoid the sun 4-6 weeks before and after treatment. Patients who are actively tan or sunburned will need to re-schedule their treatment session. Additionally, you cannot be treated if you have a spray or artificial tan.
Apply sunblock (SPF 30 or above) before treatment.
What should I Expect During my Laser Hair Removal Treatment?
Laser Hair Removal treatments are quick and easy. After the skin is cleansed and eye protection is applied, a small hand-piece will be used to deliver each laser light pulse. A light spray of coolant onto the skin will be felt just before each laser pulse.
A treatment can take a few minutes to an hour depending on the treatment area and condition being treated.
Can I resume my normal activities After my Laser Hair Removal Treatment?
Once the laser hair removal procedure is complete you are free to return to your normal activities immediately.
There is temporary redness and swelling that occurs immediately after treatment. This reaction typically disappears within a few hours.
Other potential side effects include hyperpigmentation, hypopigmentation, blistering and purpura (a laser bruise) in the treated area.
Avoid sun exposure for the next four weeks post treatment as this can increase risk of hyperpigmentation, we recommend the use of a broad-spectrum UVA/UVB sunscreen of SPF 30 or higher.
In the first few days after treatment, don’t scrub or rinse the treated areas with abrasive skin cleansers. Written post treatment guidelines will be provided after your treatment.
Does Laser Hair Removal hurt?
Some patients may feel slight discomfort with each laser pulse, sometimes described like a snapping of a rubber band on the skin.
This discomfort resolves quickly and is minimized by the patented Dynamic Cooling Device™ (DCD™). For some patients a topical anesthetic may be used prior to treatment.
How long is a Laser Hair Removal treatment?
It depends on the area of the body being treated; smaller areas treated may take 15 to 20 minutes, whereas larger areas treated may take a little longer.
Will I have sensitivity to light following my Laser Hair Removal treatment?
Yes. Sun exposure after treatment can increase risk of hyperpigmentation, so we recommend sun avoidance and use of broad-spectrum UVA/UVB sunscreen of SPF 30 or higher. Written post treatment guidelines will be provided after your treatment.
Are these treatments covered by insurance?
Most insurance companies do not offer reimbursement for cosmetic procedures.
What skin types can be treated with the GentleMax Pro®?
All skin types, light and dark, can be treated using GentleMax Pro® Laser Hair Removal treatment.
Are the results of laser hair removal permanent?
After a series of six treatments, most Integrated Dermatology Laser Hair removal patients will notice between 60% and 80% permanent reduction. Those hairs that are not permanently reduced will be made smaller, finer and not as dark.
Most patients will experience hairlessness for many months in each area following a laser hair removal series. When the hair that did not get killed gets regrowth, a maintenance treatment is required for the small percentage of hairs that have been resistant to the multi-wavelength series of laser hair removal treatments.
*There’s no guarantee of specific results and the results can vary.
How many treatment sessions will I need?
Multiple treatments are required. The reduction of hair can be seen after one treatment but because hair grows in cycles, not all hair is affected in one treatment. Everyone usually requires at least 6 treatments, about 4-6 weeks apart.
How much is Laser Hair Removal?
Cost depends on the area being treated which can be discussed at your consultation. We provide packages to help patients save while receiving the best treatment for their skin.
